Sparrow Hospital celebrates record-breaking 9,000,000 Web site hits per month
When i2Integration first began the redevelopment of Sparrow Health System's Web site in 1999, the Web site was receiving approximately 2,500 hits per month.
In 2007, Sparrow set a new record: nine million web hits per month.
This accomplishment -- determined by Web traffic reporting software -- follows Sparrow's 2006 recognition by Hospitals & Health Networks, the journal of the American Hospital Association, as one of the nation's “most improved” for online access out of 1,217 participating hospitals.
Web Administrator Annette Burge said the explosion in use of Sparrow’s web site – about half of which can be tracked to internal uses – means one thing: “People are relying on the internet as a primary tool and a primary source for information.”
And health systems that keep up with the demand for increased online resources are seeing measurable client satisfaction and streamlined services.
On Sparrow’s website – www.sparrow.org -- users pay bills, send electronic cards to patients, order flowers, register for procedures, request prescription refills, view online birth announcements and apply for jobs. Burge said the system gets more than 3,000 online job applications every month.
And those are just a handful of examples.
Sparrow continues to expand its online offerings – most recently by adding more interactive forms and heart risk and orthopedic joint pain assessments that help users determine the best course to contact physicians for treatment. Plans are to add more virtual tours and more department and treatment-specific information.
John Forsberg, CEO of i2Integration of Lansing, has along with a team of programmers, worked in tandem with Sparrow's in-house Web Team, in developing Sparrow's Web site, one of the most comprehensive and dynamic Web sites in mid-Michigan.
i2Integration has developed an ongoing relationship with Sparrow and several of their health care affiliates, implementing database integration, enterprise-wide Intranet capabilities, content management systems and innovative custom applications including nationally recognized BabyOnline and HouseCalls.
